Terra Kendama started with a simple question: "Can we make a kendama?"
We weren't interested in paying someone else to make a kendama with our name on it, we wanted to do it ourselves! So we purchased a wood lathe and started figuring out the process, one step at a time.

Knowledge of wood species and playability
Not every wood species makes a good kendama, but we've done our homework to make sure that every product made in our workshop will stand up to the abuse of modern kendama play. Working at a small scale allows us to easily test new designs and wood species, so that we can make the best kendamas on the market.
Made by professional kendama players
We are the only business run by professional players making hand-turned kendamas: All Terra hand-turned kens are made by Alex Smith, and the Roddama hand-turned kens are made by Rodney Ansell. Both Alex and Rodney have maintained positions as pro players for years, so they are well-versed in the sort of details that set a good kendama apart from the rest.

We have built out a specialized Handturned Custom Shop where you can order and design every aspect of your own custom kendama. Several times a year, we also release curated sets of handturned kendamas for sale through our online shop; usually this is preceded by an announcement through our instagram page.
